Our specialty is motion image Integral Holography. It is a two step process. Images are first shot on 16mm or 35mm motion picture film and then transferred with a laser to hologram film. Integral Holograms can be displayed flat, curved, or as a cylinder viewable from 360 degrees. Displaying the hologram on a curved or cylindrical surface makes the hologram viewable to a larger audience than normal. Integral Holograms can be created from living people in motion, stop motion animation, video, and/or computer generated imagry. We can produce both the master hologram and scanned copy holograms here in our laboratories. Although we prefer to do our original cinematography here at our studios, many of our projects have been filmed on site at remote locations.
Over the decades we have created Integral Holograms for
corporate clients including G.D.Searle, Squibb, TDK, Celanese,
Certainteed,
American Enka, Talon, ICI, DuPont, Hasbro, The
Philadelphia Stock Market, Shaw/Walker, Remy Martin,
Hyatt, Lord & Taylor,and the U.S. Army.

For those of you creating 3D computer images, Holographic Studios offers the ability to transfer your work into actual three dimensional holography displays. We prefer to work from GIFs or JPEGs on Zip discs, but if necessary we can adapt to your format. The process is quick and easy and surprisingly affordable. Among our computer generated holography clients are NYU Medical Center, Mitsubishi, The American Museum of Natural History, Michigan State University and Allied. Call us for details on the hologram transfer process.

Our portrait program is open to the public. Starting at $1,000 we can produce a motion image holography image of you. Sittings usually take about half an hour. Your finished hologram is ready in approximately a month. And yes, we can accommodate rush hologram projects and shoot at a remote location. Appointments are required.
Our portrait artist, Jason Sapan, has created holograms of Andy Warhol, Pierre Cardin, John Cage, Isaac Asimov, Bill Clinton, Ed Koch, John Kenneth Galbraith, Edward Heath, Phil Donahue, Sally Jessy Rapheal, Oksana Baiul, Tommy Moe, Johann Olav Koss, Billy Idol, the Smothers Brothers, and Phyllis Diller among many others. His holograms have been exhibited around the world.

Holographic Studios has been working with Silver Halide hologram emulsions since the 1970's. It is a medium particularily suited for custom pieces. We are skilled in both transmission holography and reflection holography. Transmission holograms are rear lit and can be produced as either laser viewable or rainbow colored white light viewable images. Reflection holograms are lit from the same side as they are viewed and are viewable in white light as a single color image. Many of our holograms are for one of a kind projects. We design holograms uniquely suited to meet your specific needs.

When it comes to mass produced holograms, we believe it is the design of the master hologram that makes a run an outstanding success. After all, each mass produced hologram costs the same price whether the master hologram looks great or simply acceptable. Holographic Studios has created uniquely designed Embossed Holograms since 1984. We were the first company to produce embossed holograms on colored mylar. Holographic Studios has created embossed holograms for corporations including IBM, AT&T, AIWA, BASF, Tag-Heuer, Chemical Bank, John Hancock, Island Records (Anthrax),and Southpole. Our hologram designs have consistently broken new ground in using this medium. We have produced embossed holograms magnets, hologram puzzles, hologram buttons, hologram stickers, as well as hologram covers for corporate reports, fliers, invitations, and publications. If you are looking for holograms for security applications, we offer a full line of tamper evident holography products. Whether you needs are for short runs or large quantites of holograms we are ready to work with you.

Holograms cannot be duplicated through photocopying or computer scanning. If you are looking for a security application of holography, Holographic Studios can create a hologram for you. We have delivered millions of security holograms. These holograms have been used for anti-counterfeiting, tamper evidence, and authentification. We have years of experience in this field. Some of the specialty feature that we can incorporate into a hologram are uniquely mastered images, sequential numbering, tamper evident foils, covert imaging, and multiple channels. Among our security holography clients are Singer, Eicher, and Authenticorp.

Holographic Studios offers a three hour introductory class on holography for $150. You learn the basic concepts of holography and make a hologram of your own in our subterranean laser holography laboratory that you get to take home. Advanced classes are also available at $250 per class. Our staff has had over twenty five years of experience in teaching holography classes.
Read what people who have taken classes say about their experiences.
Many of the students who have taken the introductory class have gone on to win science fairs or get high honors in their school project on holography. Others have taken the classes to pursue a hobby in holography.

Holographic Studios welcomes students interested in doing an Internship. We have worked with High School and college programs. Interns get to work in the laser lab as we create and copy holograms. In addition the intern gets a chance to sample what it is like to work in a gallery, fabricate displays, create sculptural and/or computer generated art, work in cinematography, and learn the behind the scenes workings of running a holography business in New York City. The intern is encouraged to make a hologram or other laser art of their own as part of their work here. Students have chosen to make video documentaries, photographic exhibitions, and computer presentations, as well as holograms.
Most schools give academic credits for the internship. It is a unique and fascinating opportunity. Contact Dr.Laser for more information.

Holographic Studios is located in a century old Brownstone that was originally a Blacksmith's forge on Manhattan's fashionable East Side. Our holography gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is always free! With over 200 holograms on display, consisting of holograms of a wide range of types, large and small from all over the world, we are one of New York City's most unique attractions. Our collection of Integral Holograms is the world's largest featuring celebrity portrait holograms only on display at this location. Tours and lectures are available by appointment.

Mr. Sapan has lectured extensively. He has taught college level beginner and advanced Holography at the School of Visual Arts. Some of the other schools he has given holography lectures at include NYU, University of Vermont, The Art Institute of Chicago, and the Nantucket Island School of Art and Design. For many years he was the portrait holographer for the Museum of Holography in New York City.
Jason Sapan is also well known for his pioneering use of laser lighting. In 1977, he created the opening logo for the CBS Sports Spectacular. He produced laser lighting effects at Studio 54 in New York City. His work was featured on television in an episode of The Equalizer. Over the years his laser shows have been commissioned by clients including Mobil Oil, Hewlett Packard, Arista Records, and The Philadelphia Stock Market. He has created many photographic laser effects in print ads. Some of his more notable projects have been for Macy's, Radio Shack, and Revlon. Not surprisingly, his art has appeared on the covers of Art Direction, Science & Mechanics, and Discothekin.
Mr. Sapan has also worked in the field of Vibration Analysis. He has worked for Kenward Oliphant, Acoustical Consultants Inc., and Frank Hubach Associates. Most of the work he performed was for computer chip manufacturers such as IBM, Fairchild, Motorola, and AMD. In this line of work accelerometers are used to detect and isolate low frequency vibration that would interfere with sub micron work. He has also used his expertice in this field in analysing sources of troublesome vibration in holography laboratories.
